Weekend Work Parties

With two weeks to go before Crane-in and the new sailing season, several members carried out some work around the club during the weekend of 21st /22nd March.
On Saturday, a team of mudlarks galumphed over the sand and mudbanks to check and repair the channel markers at low tide. The missing No. 8 channel mark was found and re-attached to its anchor which had buried itself over a metre into the mud. The team also re-positioned race mark A.
In the afternoon, the two club workboats were launched (one of them without its bung, oops) and were used to lay the race marks in the bay.
On Sunday, another team checked all the club moorings before keelboat owners could attach their mooring strops. A surprising number of sunken branches, some quite large and heavy, were found entangled in the risers and removed to shore. Some mooring rings and shackles were replaced, and missing mousing was replaced.
A new shore chain was added to indicate the position of the join in the west chain, which should make the autumn moorings maintenance easier.
At the same time, a small group erected a new pole and depth gauge at the west end of the river bar. The depth gauge has been missing for a year, and a new one has been lovingly created by the finest craftsmen in the club. Seriously, have a good look when you sail past, it is a work of art.
Meanwhile, a shore team trimmed and tidied up the vegetation along the promenade wall to the north of the clubhouse, to prevent damage to the wall.
This was all dirty, messy work but it needs to be done every year to allow us to enjoy our sailing at Cramond. A huge thanks is due to all who helped, in particular, but not limited to Campbell Calder, Lawrie Elliot and Alastair Johnson.
Now members can concentrate on getting their boats ready to launch!
