Yesterday we had another cracking sailing day with a lovely north easterly breeze giving some excellent sailing & racing. With a Cruiser Race, Dinghy Race Autumn 4 and Cadet training there was a lot going on at the club and a lot of big smiles after an excellent days sailing. Once again many thanks to all the safety boat crews and coaches.

Yesterday, Saturday 30 July, in a change of plan we ran a Free Sail. The original events scheduled: kids training (Sea Monkeys) and our annual Family Fun Day which we usually hold on Cramond Island or at Peatdraught bay had to be cancelled as there was too much wind for these to be run safely. The more experienced dinghy sailors got the opportunity for a Free Sail blast in fresh westerly breeze.

It's not always sunshine sailing at Cramond! The fine green slimy seaweed we get in the river can make our slipway lethal underfoot and we have a members rota for power washing our slipway to keep it clear of seaweed. Power washing the slip means that we are not using any nasty chemicals which could damage the flora & fauna in and around the river area and although it is a bit more work it

After a period of very the strong winds which seemed to conspire with every high tide at Cramond we eventually had moderate sailing conditions on Sunday 11 July which allowed the cruiser sailors to get a race in, whilst the dinghy sailors enjoyed a Free Sail.

On Saturday 25 July we had Sea Monkeys (kids training) at the club. Once again it was a bit too wild for the kids to sail out on the open water but they had a great time practicing capsize drills and a number of other boat skills on the river as can be seen from the photographs. Many thanks to all the instructors and helpers for giving up their free time to help the kids

Sailing resumed last Sunday after we lost a number of events due to the current run of high winds. We combined four events on Sunday with a Cruiser race, dinghy race and Cadet & Kids (Sea Monkey) training. Even though the winds were lighter than of recent it was still a feisty 20mph west by north west creating a very lumpy sea at Cramond. The dinghy racing was dominated by Ewan Christison with two firsts

Yesterday we had a very successful "Shottie in a Yottie" event, this is where Cruiser owners volunteer to take dinghy sailors out to try yacht sailing. The conditions were lovely on the water and those that took part had a great sail. Many thanks to all the cruiser sailors who supported this event it was great to see so many boats out.
