Flotilla Visit

On Tuesday 22nd July, a dozen small boats visited Cramond for a few hours.
This was the "English Raid", a bunch of trailer-sailors ranging from 14ft to 27ft that travel to different parts of Britain every summer. This year they descended on the Firth of Forth, and planned to visit various harbours on the Forth during the week from their base at RFYC, Granton.
The weather for their short trip to Cramond was a good SW moderate wind. They had been briefed on the pilotage in and out of Cramond, and they all arrived safely. CBC members Janice and Leonie knew some of them from the Dinghy Cruising Association, and kindly sailed out in their Wanderer to meet them and guide them in.
There was an interesting mixture of boats in the fleet, ranging from a beautiful, tiny canoe sailor with outriggers to a 27ft open whaler powered by 8 oars when not sailing. Many of the craft were elegant ketches and yawls from Swallow Yachts who make classic lifting-keel craft at their yard in Wales.
The crews were welcomed into the clubhouse and supplied with hot drinks and biscuits. They seemed very taken with our little harbour and gave a resounding three cheers to CBC on their departure.
Many thanks to the club members who welcomed our visitors to the club, and good luck to the raiders for the rest of their week in Scotland.
