Cruiser Evening Race

Four keelboats took part in the fourth race of the weekday series on the evening of Wednesday 16th July.

The wind was NE force 2 so a course of Y-Z-M-D was agreed.

However at the start the wind died and the boats slowly sailed or drifted westwards towards Y and then Z. Andy Walker in Exisle managed to get a couple of boat lengths ahead and the other three were very close to each other.

By the time the boats reached mark Z the wind was a little better and was F2. Andy took a starboard tack, and Alastair in Pegasus II rounded inside Chris on Scherzo. Both boats just hardened up onto starboard. Seeaway was very close behind and Keith took a starboard tack too. Exisle pulled ahead, but then appeared to find a header and a light patch.

Pegasus II and Seaway had a close pass, with Alastair just ducking Keith's stern after taking a port tack. Chris took a middle route up the beat. Alastair went close to Cramond Island and Keith went out to the port layline.

At mark M the order was Exisle, Seeaway, Pegasus II and Scherzo. The wind stayed up at F2 as the four boats stayed in the same order as they had a pleasant sail in the sunshine to the finish.
