Cruiser Race W4

Your roving reporter took a trip on Alastair Johnsons Pegasus II to take part in Cruiser race W4 on Sunday 7 July.
Conditions were a light north westerly as three yachts lined up for the start with Andy Walker in Exile getting off the start line first. Initially it was a beat out to D mark off Cramond Island and both Exisle and Pegasus II had to put tacks in to lay the mark, however Dave Jamieson in Talisker got a handy lift as the breeze backed to the west (he claims he saw it coming!) and this pulled Talisker up to second place.
A rain squall filled in as we rounded M mark next to Inchmickery with the wind rising to force four giving the three boats a cracking beat up to H mark off Barnbougle Castle.
In the poor visibility Exisle over stood H and this allowed Talisker to briefly take the lead as we turned for the run to the finish.
Exisle's superior downwind speed allowed her to regain the lead and she finish just ahead of Talisker winning by a mere 42 seconds on corrected time. A little further back Pegasus II came in for third place.
