Spring Work Parties

Recently we have had a number of work parties to prepare for the coming season. Lawrie Elliott and Campbell Calder had a trip onto the mud flats to check the river navigation buoys. The navigation buoys are used by club yachts and visiting yachts entering and leaving the river they are also used by RNLI Queensferry when carrying out their many rescues from Cramond Island (members of the public getting stranded there due to lack of tidal knowledge). We know from our friends at RNLI Queensferry that they find the additional visual aid of the navigation buoys very helpful.

The buoys have stood up very well considering the fierce weather of the past winter however some bits of tackle were repaired and a new buoy has been prepared to replace the last pole (number 6) which was blown over during one of the many storms. We also retrieved our Bar Marker pole at the river entrance. This had been damaged in one of the winter spates. A temporary post to mark the bar will be erected shortly.

In the river our Moorings Convenor, Alastair Johnson, led a team doing a final tidy up of the mooring trots. Although the river was a foot higher than normal due to recent rainfall, it was still possible to get the maintenance work done. This included removing branches and debris from risers and the main chain and replacing some corroded tackle. Ashore a separate party recovered some heavy chain from the river, this will be assessed and potentially used next year.

Many thanks to everybody who helped with these many tasks.
