Cruiser Race MD4

On Sunday 21 we had race four in our cruiser Middle Distance series. With a gusty south westerly breeze the yachts adopted different rig setups some reefing and others going under full sail.

Andy Walker in Exisle had established a lead by D mark off Cramond Island although closely pursued by Dave Jamieson in Talisker. Alastair Johnson in Pegasus II had lost out a little on the downwind leg due to carrying less sail but as the boats rounded M off Inchmickery to head upwind, Pegasus's rig was best set up for the breeze.

Exisle was a bit overpowered upwind under full sail and as the boats approached the windward mark, H situated off Barnbougle Castle the fleet had compressed.

Exisle still held a slender lead which she maintained on the run down to D and from there to the finish. Talisker was a mere 3 seconds behind crossing the line followed shortly after by Pegasus II in third place.
