Cruiser Race MD3

Published 22:27 on 16 Jul 2025
After the recent spell of strong winds and Haar preventing sailing at Cramond it was a relief to finally get racing on Sunday 13 July in beautiful sunny weather with a light north easterly breeze.
There were 3 boats racing, Pegasus II, Lucinda and Exisle. The course was set out as usual on the blackboard in the clubhouse foyer and started with a westward leg sailing downwind and rounding marks Y, Z, C and H before a long beat upwind to mark M and finishing with a reach from M past D and into the finish at A.
At the start the wind was quite light and Andy Walker sailing Exisle sailed expertly along the start line and hardened up just as the toot went for the start, Alastair Johnson in Pegasus II desperately tried to luff him over the line but did not have enough momentum to do so. Just behind Alastair were Jennie and Howie Stansfield sailing Lucinda.
Exisle extended her lead as the fleet sailed past Y then Z and C before coming on the wind at H. Exisle sailed up port side of the beat, whilst Pegasus II favouring the starboard side headed towards Cramond Island however Exisle passed clear ahead on the approach to M and held the lead past D until the finish at A. Pegasus II took second with Lucinda deciding to retire as the breeze faded.
Everyone enjoyed the champagne sailing conditions!
