Closing Cruise to Aberdour

Published 20:19 on 21 Sep 2025
The weather forecast for the weekend of 20th / 21st September was mixed. Predictions of heavy rain and strong northerly winds over the two days meant that many people swithered and delayed making a decision about whether to take part in the closing cruise to Aberdour.
In the end, 12 people in five boats made the crossing: Pegasus II, Scherzo, Seeaway, Stravaig and Talisker.
The wind on Saturday was NE F3-4 so the boats had a beat across the Forth. Some started with a reef but soon shook them out as the stronger winds never materialised. However, everyone experienced the rain shower which swept over the fleet.
After tying up alongside the pier at Aberdour, the crews gathered on Pegasus II for a cup of tea then a beer before heading up the hill to the Aberdour Hotel for dinner.
After a good meal, they crossed the road to the Foresters Arms which had live music, before returning to the boats for the night.
Sunday was a pleasant, sunny day with a NW wind which made for a fine broad reach back to Cramond for the final sail of the 2025 season.
Many thanks to Chris Callender for organising the event.
