Sailing Programme Notes

These notes refer to the 2022 Sailing Programme which is shown on the Events page and can also be downloaded at the foot of this page.

Errors may occur in the published programme, and dates or times may be altered throughout the season at the discretion of the Sailing or Main Committees.

Tides in the sailing programme are shown in local time and heights are at Leith. Minimum height for racing is 4.7m.

Start times

For races and Cadets, the time shown is the race start on the water. Skippers should allow enough time to launch and get to the start area on time.

For training events (including Sea Monkeys), meeting times will be confirmed by the training officer.

Dinghy Events

Series races take place around the CBC race marks shown on the chart. On each race date, we will attempt to run two races of approx. 35 to 45 minutes duration, tide and weather permitting.

SPR Spring series
SUM Summer series
AUT Autumn series
FB Winter 'Frostbite' series

The CBC Dinghy Regatta is an open event for members of CBC and other clubs.

The Dinghy Closing Regatta is a one-day closed event and is only open to CBC members.

Cruiser Events

A Weekday series
W Saturday series
MD Middle Distance series over one big tide with a longer course than normal series races

Long Distance Race takes place over two tides which may not start or finish at Cramond and may involve overnight stops.

Master Mariner is a long distance race in which skippers must work out the best course for their yacht around a given list of marks.

Louis Gumley Trophy, Devlin Plate, Lumley Bowl and Gunners Trophy are individual trophy races for yachts.

Opening and Closing cruises are open to all, involving a cruise to a nearby harbour or anchorage and usually an overnight stay on board.

Other Events

Ladies Race is a race for yachts and dinghies in which the helm must be female.

Free Sails are open sessions for dinghy sailing when rescue cover is provided from the start time until at least an hour after HW. Any competent member (e.g. RYA Adult Level 2 or Youth Stage 3) may take out a Club dinghy (subject to availability).

Family Fun Day is an opportunity for members to bring along friends and family for a fun day out on the water in either dinghies or cruisers. Depending on the weather, a BBQ on Cramond Island or at the clubhouse will be included.

Shottie in a Yottie is a chance for members, family and friends to have a go in the bigger boats.
